Its my daughters birthday this weekend, she’s turning 7. She has been very quiet about what she wants for her birthday and she is not remotely demanding so i’ve bene having a hard time coming up with an idea. I noticed that she likes to make little “flee circus” type deals in the yard for bugs and such. I figured this was as good a place to start as any and I decided to gift her a corner of the yard thats just for her to build up a little fairy city. I bought her a house and a few other things but I spent some time last night helping her collection along with some homemade stuff.

This is what I came up with. A section of fence/ladder, a table, 2 chairs, a sign and a toadstool. Its been a while since I practiced my Boy scouts pioneer craft but it was fun. I told my wife I should try and built real ones for our yard but I got that look that said “like this? no!”. So maybe not. Anyway. Liberal use of hot snot and cheating a little with popsicle sticks but...meh.

Okay, this is awesome. Bet she’ll want Daddy to have a fairy tea party with her to make the day perfect.

7 is a hard age with a girl. She don’t want dolls or stuffed animals any more. Maybe a bike or archery set?

She has a bike. Archery set is a good idea too, but I think she’s going to dig on this big time. My other idea was some kind of geology gift cause she loves rocks.

Not sure if “too late”, but someone gave my daughter a paleontology kit where you “dig” for a little mini Tyrannosaurus skull. The “rock” was something like drywall mud, so it was pretty easy to remove. She had a blast though, and it was easily the best present she got that year.

I’ve looked at those but I can’t bring myself to spend the money on what is, as you said, just drywall mud. I can form my own ifn i want.

I can’t blame you, but on the other hand, at no point did I think “this was not worth the money.” It did make me want to “bury” other things with actual drywall mud, but I never got around to it. I figure I have way more DIY projects than I can handle as it is, so paying for one every once in a while is ok (although in this case someone else gave her one).
